Internet Users to triple by 2000

As many as 327 million people are expected to be accessing the Internet by the end of the year 2000, according to an industry trade publication. The Internet Industry Almanac projects the United States will account for 40 percent of those users, or 132 million. The Almanac estimated there were 100 million Net users at the end of 1997.
The top five countries for Net users in 2000 will include:

the United States,
Germany (22.9 million)
Japan (21.9 million)
United Kingdom (17 million)
France (12.6 million), it was estimated.
